Tom Hardy has proven once again that he is a sweet and gentle soul by pleading with fans to help rehome newborn puppies.

‘New Staffies found and brought to Battersea this am in a box found in park (sic),’ he wrote on Instagram with a picture of the adorable black doggies.

‘Look at them. I want to house them all 8 weeks old. Go see them.’

The three puppies were all cuddled together in one basket in the the picture, with blue collars.

It is not clear where they were found or by whom.

Tom is a known dog lover, and he was left devastated in June when his beloved pooch Woody passed away.

‘We at home are devastated by his loss I am ultimately grateful for his loyal companionship and love and it is of some great comfort that he is no longer suffering,’ he wrote.

‘Above all I am completely gutted. The world for me was a better place with him in it and by my side.’

Tom rescued Woody while filming 2012 flick Lawless, after the Labrador-cross ran across a road him and co-star Jessica Chastain were driving down.

Describing him as his ‘angel’ and ‘best friend’, Tom detailed in a heartbreaking blog post to Woody how the dog’s name came about following their initial meeting. ‘Jessica asked me was he a girl or a boy,’ he wrote. ‘It’s a boy I said. How do you know. Erm… I can feel his Woodstock. Great!!! Let’s call him Woodstock!!! And so it was.’

Woody was named the 73rd most influential animal in TIME magazine – beating Jaws – and also appeared in many of Tom’s projects including Legend and Peaky Blinders.
