Will the real Idris please stand up? (Picture: Emperis/Rex)

An £850 toy modelled to look like Idris Elba has been roundly mocked by fans for, well, not looking anything like Idris Elba.

With a bald head, evil eyes and narrow jawline, the doll isnt exactly the spitting image of the Luther actor who was recently awarded the honour of being named 2018s Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine.

In fact, many believe the doll more closely resembeled Montell Williams or Romany Malco – or even Aladdin villain, Jafar.

And other jokes that the doll is how other men wish Idris looked.

Would you spend £850 on this doll? (Picture: Emperis)

That's not Idris Elba. That's Montel Williams.

The doll went on sale on 5 November and Emperis claimed there were only a few left at that time.

Idris Elba is a British actor we have always admired. Our doll was inspired by him leading to our artistic interpretation, Emperis told

Idris, who has been widely tipped to take over the role of James Bond, admitted the honour of being named Sexiest Man Alive was a boost to his ego (which he may need after the reaction to this doll.)

Speaking about his new title, the 46-year-old revealed that, after being picked on as a kid, it was a nice surprise.

He explained: I was like, “Come on, no way. Really?” Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, “Yeah, you are kind of sexy today”. But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure.

The actor is set to return to our screens very shortly, with series five of Luther on the way.

It has been more than three years since our favourite detective graced us with his presence – but a teaser for the next season shows hes picking up right where he left off.

Neil Cross, the shows creator, previously explained: We missed John Luther. We missed some old friends. And we wanted to make the biggest, scariest, darkest, most thrilling series of Luther theres ever been. So thats what weve come back to do.

Throw in this doll, and it will be mission accomplished.
