The funeral of Jo Min-ki is taking place at the Konkuk University Hospital Funeral Home in Seoul.
The 52-year-old has died in an apparent suicide, amidst allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him.
The actor’s funeral began last night in room 201 of the funeral home, with press asked to leave the scene.
Jo Min-ki’s family told journalists to leave as they wanted the funeral to be as private as possible.
A representative for the family told AllKPop: ‘We’re not in a situation where we can provide any official statements. The family is in such deep sorrow that we couldn’t even have a comprehensible conversation. The funeral procession will be carried out in private.’
It is believed Jo Min-ki’s son Jo Gyeong-hyeon reached the funeral at 9:30pm; he is currently serving his mandatory military service.
Min-ki is also survived by his daughter Jo Yung-gyeong and his wife Kim Sun-jin.
The East of Eden star is believed to have taken his own life, with police confirming they discovered a six-page note at the scene of his death.
His body was found by his wife Sun-jin.
More: Sexual harassment
Jo Min-ki was at the centre of a sexual harassment investigation, with police due to question him on 12 March.
It is believed police acquires testimonies of harassment from ten students at Cheongju University, where Jo taught drama.
He initially denied the allegations, but later issued an apology on 27 February.
The statement read: ‘Everything is my fault, and I am the one to blame. I am deeply sorry to all the victims for the pain I’ve caused, and from here on out, I will not avoid the social and legal consequences of my mistakes. I showed a disgraceful side of myself these past few days because I was suddenly overburdened [by the sexual harassment allegations], and I apologise again for that.
‘It’s late [to say this], but I will lay everything down. I will spend the rest of my life reflecting on my wrongdoings. I will pay my debt by committing to serve, and I bow my head in apology once again.’
