Mel B has confessed that she turned to cocaine to get her through on the X Factor in 2014.

The Spice Girl admits that she was using while she was serving as a judge on series 11 and sometimes had as much as six lines a day during her claustrophobic divorce from Stephen Belafonte.

Writing in her aptly-named new autobiography Brutally Honest, Mel, 43, reveals about her dependence on the drug to fire on all cylinders.

I was so low that two weeks into filming The X Factor Id started using cocaine to get me through the run of the show, she said, in an extract printed by The Sun on Sunday.

Mel says she was deeply ashamed and admits that she would pray to God for forgiveness straight afterwards.

She says she would take two lines on the mornings before she filmed X Factor and another, and another, and another after she left the studio, but never took anything at work.

It numbed my pain, she explained. It lifted me up enough to be ready to fire on all cylinders and forget about everything but the show.

She adds: [After the show] the cocaine would come back out of my bag and up into my nose… My quick-fix answer was cocaine.

Mel B appeared as a judge on The X Factor at a time when (as she later claimed) she was in an alleged cycle of abuse at the hands of producer Belafonte.

The singer missed the first live final of that season and returned for the second with visible marks on her arms and shoulders.

In court documents she later alleged that the marks were facial and body wounds from [Stephens] abuse that could not be concealed with make-up.

Belafonte has repeatedly denied physically abusing Mel.

Now she says her drug habit turned into six-a-day dependency owing to the neurotic claustrophobia of her divorce with Stephen.

In the book, she claims was left with just £800 out of an £80 million fortune following the split.

She suggests he seized control of her fortune and left her with nothing but a few suitcases of clothes, books and toys – but regrets nothing as finally, after ten years, I was free.
