Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson has defended herself against accusations that she has been ‘acting black’.

The 12-year-old reality star, who shot to fame on her show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, posted a video to her Instagram stories to defend herself against the comments she received on social media.

Honey Boo Boo dismissed the remarks and insisted, ‘you can’t act a colour’.

She said: ‘Let me just tell y’all. Someone just told me to stop acting black in my comments.

‘Honey, the last thing I am is black honey. I’m white. Look at my face hun. I’m white. White.

‘And I want to know, how the fuck you act a colour? Like, oh you wake up one day and be like, “Hmm, let’s see. I’m going to be purple.”

‘Ho, you can’t act a colour. You can be a colour, but you can’t act a colour.’

Honey Boo Boo, who first appeared on screen on the TLC reality show Toddlers and Tiaras, now stars alongside the rest of her family in a reality show focused on her mother, Mama June: From Not to Hot.

People came to Honey Boo Boo’s defense after the video was posted, with one user saying her manner of speech is down to her southern American roots.

They wrote: ‘She’s southern. This is how southerners speak. Some people need to get educated.’
