While “Jimmy Kimmel Live” doggedly tries to captivate an audience with the same political commentary every night, Stephen Colberts “Colbert Report” just got a massive ratings bump for his Tuesday night interview with James Comey.
Colberts interview was the first late night television appearance since the FBI director was fired, and the numbers certainly demonstrate that. (RELATED: YOULL NEVER BELIEVE WHO JAMES COMEYS ROLE MODEL IS)
Colbert spent 30 minutes interviewing the former FBI director and – though his show already beats out other late night TV shows in similar spots – these ratings were pretty astronomical.
The show clocked in a 3.5 rating among adults aged 18-49. Since the reports are so new, it has not yet been made clear how many millions of viewers tuned in to watch. For reference, Colbert usually averages about 4 million viewers per show.
In the Comey interview, Comey told Colbert that Trumps frequent discussion of Comey makes him feel like “the breakup he cant get over.”
“He wakes up in the morning—Im out there living my best life—he wakes up in the morning and tweets at me,” Comey said. It has also not yet been made immediately clear whether Comey is, in fact, living his best life.
