Before Battle Royale, the Fortnite base game was launched as Save the World, a co-op sandbox survival game.
While the focus has shifted mainly onto Battle Royale, Epic Games has reassured Save the World fans that they still intend to grow the other Fortnite game mode.
The base game offers various different elements compared to what players experience in Battle Royale and it encourages much more co-up gameplay.
Save the World is currently available to purchase, with players able to buy campaign packs and player packs, but Epic Games has announced plans to make the game mode free to play.
When is Save the World going to be free?
Epic Games has said that the Save the World PvE campaign is set to be launched for free in 2018, but a specific date has not yet been announced.
What is Fortnite Save the World?
Fortnite’s Save the World mode has different gameplay to the popular Battle Royale game, with a heavier focus on exploration and survival against AI enemies rather than fighting each other.
It is a sandbox game that sees players work together to collect supplies, build weapons and create structures using many of the items seen in Battle Royale.
The game also includes its own unique weapons including swords and pistols with laser sight.

Save the World also features a variety of playable heroes who come under various classes with special attributes.
In a similar way to Battle Royale, Epic Games regularly has themed events for celebrations such as Halloween and Christmas, which gives players new holiday-themed items and rewards.
