One of gaming’s most beloved, and strangest, developers has announced he’s working on a new game that will be out this year.
The maker of cult classics such as Deadly Premonition and D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die has revealed he’s working on a new game, and this one doesn’t need any crowfunding.
It’s called The Missing and will be out this year on consoles, via Dragon Ball FighterZ developer Arc System Works – who also publish games in Japan.
According to Hidetaka ‘SWERY’ Suehiro the name has multiple meanings and can refer to, ‘A missing person, someone who’s lost, or even something lost. Maybe it’s your loved one… or a place you belong. Do you ever feel lost in your everyday life? The Missing is for someone like you’.
In other words, we don’t know anything about it yet, and all the video gives away is that it might have something to do with the Moon and it’s probably set in America.
That’s opposed to his previous project, The Good Life, which is set in leafy Hertfordshire. Unfortunately, though it never met its target on crowdfunding platform Fig, so SWERY is going to have to try again with a new Kickstarter campaign.
The Good Life did raise $700,000 in funding but it’s ambitious target of $1.5 million always did seem to be asking a bit much, for a weird-looking game about a town where people turn into cats and dogs at night.
The new Kickstarter is due to begin sometime in March, so hopefully he’ll get the support he needs then and we can have two new SWERY games out in quick succession.
