Trey Songz has lent his support to Tekashi69 after insisting hes a great kid who has been misled.

The Bebe rapper, also known as Tekashi 6ix9ine, is facing life in prison for six counts of racketeering after being arrested along with pals Crippy, Ish and his ex-manager Shottie earlier this month.

Though Tekashi has entered a not guilty plea, he is due to spend at least the next year behind bars after having his trial set for September 2019.

Speaking of his sentence on The Real talk show on Friday, Trey admitted he felt sad for the 22-year-old because his future held so much promise, but insisted he didnt think Tekashi was a bad kid.

I was sad for him, you know, thats something very serious, especially when you have a budding career that could be so promising, the Na Na singer shared.

I just look at it as a message to the youth out there and everybody aspiring to be somebody.

When you have a chance to attain that, I think sometimes people focus on where youre from versus more so where youre going and if you attach yourself to certain situations as a certain energy, that energy will hold you back from where you have the possibility to go.

I think hes a great kid, misled in a lot of ways, and hes one of those people where you wish you wouldve seen them make that turn, because it was in him. So, praying for the best.

Tekashi, real name Daniel Hernandez, hasnt exactly been letting his life behind bars slow him down, though.

The rapper is known to splash the cash – recently dropping a cool $100,000 (£78,000) on security – and wasnt about to let his whereabouts stop him from celebrating reported girlfriend Jades birthday in style.

The Fefe star gifted his girl an iced out 41mm Rolex Datejust – customised with 18k white and rose gold and 24 carats worth of VS diamonds – earlier this week, which is thought to have set him back a frosty $35,000 (£27,400).

Fans are also still able to enjoy his music, after the rapper finally dropped debut album Dummy Boy earlier this week after multiple delays.

The new project, which was leaked on 27 November, features Kanye West and Nicki Minaj and is now officially available.

And while pal Trey spoke of his hopes for Tekashi to better himself through his music, the 34-year-old hasnt exactly had the cleanest routes to success himself.

Earlier this year, the Heart Attack singer was said to have turned himself in after facing a felony domestic violence charge, but the case was later dropped due to insufficient evidence.
