Timesplitters – Latest News
On 15 August 2018, Koch Media and Deep Silver announced it had acquired the rights to both TimeSplitters and other Free Radical property, Second Sight.
"Largely considered as one of the most influential console games of the early 2000s Timesplitters was originally created by Free Radical Design, who later became Crytek UK Ltd and finally Deep Silver Dambuster, also part of the Koch Media family," notes the press release.
"The three game series earned a large and passionate fan base thanks to its unique humour, art style and pop culture references while encouraging customisation and modification to give each person their own individual experience."
“We are hugely excited to have acquired Timesplitters” commented Klemens Kundratitz, CEO Koch Media GmbH “The original games gave fans a massive content offer and provided a pure and genuinely fun arcade shooter experience. We have many fans of the Timesplitters series among our own staff who are passionate about creating a product that will thrill today's gaming audience.”
The press release concludes: "Full details of future Timesplitters and Second Sight products will be revealed in due course," so expect to hear more information soon.

One of the PS2's most beloved shooter series, TimeSplitters, has been acquired by Koch Media.
Originally released back in 2000 on Sony's massively successful console, TimeSplitters quickly accrued a cult following, and calls for the game to be rereleased or continued have been going on for some time.
In a press release in August, Koch Media announced it had acquired the rights to the series, and that plans to release more content based on the series in the future (though in what specific capacity remains to be seen).
We feel – thanks to the madcap series' setup and trigger-happy gameplay – that it would perfectly suit the new trend of Battle Royale games, and the game wouldn't have to deviate too far from what players know in order to accommodate the genre.
Could we be seeing Fortnite, PUBG and Realm Royale see a new contender in the Battle Royale space? We sincerely hope so. We've got a lot of ideas – Deep Silver Dambuster please get in touch in if you want to hear us rant at you.
Here's everything you need to know about the series' and its resurrection.

Timesplitters – What we know so far
TimeSplitters is a series of first-person shooter video games created by Free Radical Design. It comprises three installments: TimeSplitters (2000), TimeSplitters 2 (2002), and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect (2005).
The titles were inspired by (and are often compared to) GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark – both made by Rare.
The games were known for their stlyised graphics, massive content pools and off-beat humour.
The series mascot, as you can probably tell from this page, was a monkey that became synonymous with the title and its strange take on historical warfare.
THQ Nordic owned the rights to the game until August 2018, where Koch Media/Deep Silver acquired the IP, pending new releases in the series.

TimeSplitters – Reboot
When asked about the likelihood of the series coming back in the age of the Xbox One and the PS4, former Dambuster's Studio Head & Game Director Hasit Zala told Daily Star Online:
"I think what you start to see over time, is that many gamers get IP fatigue.
"You can see more recently that people's mind sets are changing and the things they want are changing as well.
"We're starting to see people wanting different styles of gameplay [in shooters] and I think the great thing is, as time goes on, opinions change and the fashion changes within gaming culture.
"You look at a game like Overwatch, I think that's a really good example of something that eight years ago, with that art style, within the shooter genre, could have run into the same problems TimeSplitters 3 faced."
Before we left the studio, we asked Zala one more time if he thinks there's room for another TimeSplitters game in today's crowded FPS market.
Zala pauses and then tell us: "There's always opportunity for different games and aesthetics to come through."

TimeSplitters – History
Former Free Radical employee Martin Wakeley told Eurogamer a few years back: "We tried to do TimeSplitters 4 with everyone, but they (Publishers) weren't interested. People say they love it, but no-one wants to sell that game."
And during a brief spell of ownership under Crytek, CEO Cevat Yerli told VG247 that the company was gauging the popularity of the TimeSplitters franchise.
At the time, he also noted that while the “volume of responses” is quite high, “its not high enough” to warrant a new release.
Then, in an interview with Daily Star Online in 2016, former Dambuster's Studio Head & Game Director Hasit Zala explained:
"When we finished TimeSplitters 3 it was, at the time, a very hard market.
"Call of Duty had really taken off at that stage and it was hard for publishers and money people to look beyond that genre of games.
"Publishers were really focussed on the Halo's and Call of Duty style games – and for many of them it was difficult to see past that style."

TimeSplitters – Cameo
The original iteration of TimeSplitters 4 was supposed to launch shortly after the third game, but thanks to continued issues with the IP, and developer Free Radical going into administration, it never game to light.
However, we did recently see a version of TimeSplitters running on modern hardware.
In 2016's Homefront: Revolution, there was an easter egg that let you played levels of the game. If you found an arcade cabinet in the Korean-occupied Philadelphia, you could boot up a few levels of the game and play them on PS4 or Xbox One.
Hopefully, soon we'll get a more significant look at the title in action on modern hardware.
