Nintendos biggest surprises may have been ruined for Smash Bros., either that or this is the most convoluted fake of all time.

The Switchs biggest release of the year is also one of the last, and since Nintendo has said theyll announce all the new characters before it comes out on December 7 that means theres presumably a major Nintendo Direct still to come this month or next.

Previously, director Masahiro Sakurai has warned not to expect too many new characters but if this leak is true he may have committed a terminological inexactitude, aka lie.

According to the leak seven new characters, who have never appeared as playable characters before, will be added. Although the majority are assumed to be echo fighters, which are re-skins of existing characters with slightly different moves:

Geno from Super Mario RPG (assumed to be new)

The Chorus Kids from Rhythm Paradise (assumed to be new)

Banjo-Kazooie (assumed to be new)

Isaac from Golden Sun (assumed to be a reskin of a Fire Emblem character)

Mach Rider from the NES game of the same name (assumed to be a reskin of Captain Falcon)

Ken from Street Fighter (assumed to be a reskin of Ryu)

Shadow the Hedgehog (assumed to be, well… you can probably guess that one)

Enhance 57 to 19. Track 45 left. Stop.

The explanation of where the leak comes from is long and extraordinarily complicated but revolves around a marketing person who put an image on SnapChat that seems to be from a promotional armband that shows a version of the now familiar roster image with additional characters.

Thats of lot circumstantial evidence suggesting its real, but at the end of the day anything can be faked if youre crazy enough to put in the hours.

Fans on forum ResetEra have found that everything seems to check out though and that all seven characters do seem to be legit.

The only other reason to disbelieve it is if that if Microsoft were letting Nintendo use Banjo-Kazooie youd think theyd also agree to Minecraft, but thats hardly a deal breaker.

If its true though it could also mean that Banjo-Kazooie, and by extension other Rare games, could also be okayed to appear on the rumoured Classic Mini N64.
