Square Enix news: Latest Kingdom Hearts 3, Avengers, Final Fantasy 7 Remake updates (Pic: SQUARE ENIX)

Square Enix is keeping surprisingly tight-lipped about some of its biggest upcoming games.

We're seeing the company reveal precious little information about the likes of Final Fantasy 7 and its mysterious Avengers game, but luckily for us, the rumour mill is working overtime to compensate.

First up, Kingdom Hearts 3 – there's a rumour knocking around that the game could be targeting a Nintendo Switch release.

That's according to DreamcastGuy on Youtube, who notes that a source has told him Square Enix is 'heavily considering' bringing the highly-anticipated RPG title to Nintendo's popular handheld.

That's great news for Final Fantasy 7 fans, too.

Why? Because both the mysterious Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 run on the same engine – Unreal 4. If Square Enix considering launching next year's Kingdom Hearts game on the console, then they may also consider launching FFVII on the Switch, too.

It's not totally outside the realms of possibility, either.

Last year, Hajime Tabata and the development team that worked on Final Fantasy XV noted that they had looked at porting the latest title in the long-running series to the console, but the team was unable to "bring out the most of the engine" on Nintendo Switch.

That said, Tabata noted that his team hadn't performed any optimisations on the console, and so maybe it could have worked better if they had… an interesting precedent for future releases.

On the Western arm of Square Enix, the Avengers game has also seen a few updates this week.

According to a new job listing, developer Crystal Dynamics is looking for a senior software engineer that has “experience with current and next-gen platforms: Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.”

That sounds like the developer could either be targeting a next-gen or a cross-gen release for the game – something that means we may still be quite a way off seeing the game launch.

That'd be a shame – we seriously thought we were going to hear more about the title at E3 this year, but that never came to be.

We look forward to hearing about the game soon.
