Ricky Gervais attacked President Donald Trump as “arrogant and stupid” in a recent interview.

“It is a challenge to be as arrogant and stupid as the President of the United States, but I’m trying,” the 56-year old comedian explained in an excerpt from an interview with Big Issue.

“When you’ve got a president tweeting much worse things than I say ironically, I can’t push the boundaries enough,” he added. “People go, ‘Yeah that was quite offensive, but not as bad as the leader of the free world– and he means it!'”

Gervais also talked about landing his Netflix special titled, “Ricky Gervais: Humanity.” It’s his first stand-up show he’s done in seven years.

In the new special, the comedian said he doesn’t “care about the backlash” he got after he hosted the Golden Globes in 2016 when he mocked Caitlyn Jenner.

“It wasn’t transphobic,” Gervais said of his joke. “It was a joke about a transperson, but the joke had nothing to do with the aspect of her existence. People get offended when they mistake the subject of a joke with the actual target. And they’re not necessarily the same.”

Later, he said he has “always identified as a chimp,” an obvious jab at the LGBTQ community’s gender identification remarks.

“If I say I am a chimp, I am a chimp,” the comedian shared. “From now on you call me Bo Bo.”
