Shay Mitchell has revealed the hidden heartache of miscarrying her first child in 2018.
The Pretty Little Liars actress said shed lost the child of her hopes and dreams as she reviewed the highs and lows of the last year in an Instagram Stories round-up on Tuesday.
Shay, 31, relived her darkest day by sharing a picture of the baby scan beside a broken heart and told fans that they managed to lift her up on a daily basis without even knowing about her private plight.
In a lengthy post, the actress explained: Having so many people follow me on Instagram and read my posts is both incredibly humbling and hugely uplifting.
The support and affection that so many of you show me lifts me up during even my darkest days, one of which happened last year after I miscarried and lost the child of my hopes and dreams.

The heartbreaking picture of her unborn child followed around 60 slides summarising her 2018 highs, which included luxurious holidays, professional success and personal beauty goals.
But it also saw her become a godmother, watch her best friend give birth, cradle newborns and kiss girlfriends baby bumps.
Shed written: We all have to deal with various struggles and challenges in life. And sometimes its easier to only showcase the good times on social media, which is what leads many people to criticize it for its authenticity.

After her meaningful advice and sorrowful revelation, Shay concluded: In the spirit of the new year, I think that we need to remember that we are all on this journey together – in good times and in bad – and to remind ourselves that we seldom really know or understand the struggles and hardships that other people go through.
So for 2019, lets all try to be a little more compassionate, empathetic, patient and thoughtful with each other.
Shay is thought to have been quietly dating Matte Babel – who featured in the 2018 highlights reel – for around a year now, though she chose not disclose any details about her relationship, or the father of her child.

In spite of her hardships, the actress said her year had been incredible and ended it on a high with the release of Netflix smash You.
Dubbed a deadly mash-up of Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl and Riverdale the stalker drama sees Shay star alongside Penn Badgley and Elizabeth Lail.
