Pokemon Go News: Gen 4 Release Date, Shiny Update, Halloween reveal, New Raid boss latest (Pic: POKEMON)

Pokemon GO announced some pretty incredible news this week, as a report revealed that the game had crossed $2 billion in revenue since its initial release in July 2016.

In fact, September 2018 alone netted the company a cool $85 million and saw downloads also increase with the games strongest month to date, following an additional 8.86 million installs.

Reportedly this is a 100 percent year-over-year increase.

But despite that impressive display, this is remarkably not the biggest piece of news for Pokemon GO or developers Niantic.

That's because we finally have our first real signs that Pokemon GO Gen 4 is set to drop.

First in the form of an official trailer, but also with plenty more information revealed by the games latest update, datamined by our good pals at The Silph Road.

The big new Pokemon Go update rolled out earlier in the week and almost instantly the sleuths of The Silph Road started mooching through to extrapolate what data was hidden inside the files.

And as you can imagine, dataminers found a lot of information hidden in the game's files.

Given the announcement, it was known Gen 4 was coming, but the fact they've been added to the game might suggest they're going to be coming a lot sooner than at first expected.

In addition, there was also 17 new moves added to the game, too.

There was, of course, plenty more hidden inside the update, from shiny fixes and a new 'Fitness Goals' feature as well.

But obviously, the big news was Gen 4, so when could it be coming?

Niantic is yet to officially announce when they'll be rolling out the Gen 4 release, only offering the following statement:

“Are you ready for a Sinnoh adventure? Were excited to let you know that in preparation for the arrival of Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region, we are making two key shifts to the game balance in the coming weeks.

It's possible though that this release might be tied to the games next upcoming in-game event, Halloween.

So far, Niantic has been tight-lipped on what they have planned for the spooky October event, although a recent tease has seemingly confirmed the event will return via a recent Pokemon GO newsletter that read:

“Breaking news! Breaking news, trainers. Professor Willow reports that spooky events have occurred nearby. Could they be the work of a Ghost-type Pokemon? Stay tuned to find out.”

Last year, the Pokemon GO Halloween event started on October 20, so assuming they stick to the same schedule, we could see it arrive this coming Friday, 19th October.

NIANTIC

And assuming the Halloween spectacular does return, this could mean we see plenty more Shiny Pokemon in the game as well.

So as well as an increase in existing shiny Pokemon, such as Shiny Shuppet, Shiny Duskull and Shiny Sableye, we might also see Shiny Ghastly, Haunter and Gengar introduced.

Especially since Niantic seem pretty dead set on releasing a lot of Gen 1 Shiny Pokemon at the moment.

It has also been hypothesised that we'll see Giratina – a Legendary Gen 4 Ghost-type – rolled out as a new raid boss, perhaps replacing Mewtwo in 5 star raids.

Girantina, it's worth noting, appeared albeit briefly, in the games latest Gen 4 trailer.

So we're fairly confident on that last piece of speculation. Either way, we'd suggest keeping a close eye out as we're expecting an announcement from Niantic at some point this week.
