Halo Infinite Release Date News: Xbox and PC update drops with NEW multiplayer, beta info (Pic: MICROSOFT)

There's been a pretty huge update on Halo Infinite's development progress – but unless you sat down to watch an hour-long livestream with developer 343, you may have missed the most important parts.

343 has been pretty silent on the Halo Infinite development process for a while now, teasing a glimpse at the world back at E3 this year, but revealing precious little since then.

The most recent 343 stream seems to confirm a few things that we'd been wondering about, including how customisation will work in the game, and when we can likely start getting our hands on the game.

Before all that though, PC players may be keen to know that the platform is being "treated as a first-class citizen" by 343, and that the Slipspace engine (the new engine powering the game) was constructed with PC in mind, too. So you can expect the game to be Xbox Play Anywhere at launch.

In terms of what we can actually expect from the game itself, redditor murwo put together a pretty comprehensive list.

First up, Black Undersuits have been confirmed for Infinite, with 343 pointing out what Black Undersuits specifically mean ("All parts of armor that isn't the metal pieces") and that the art department is well aware of the high demand for Black Undersuits and how integral they are to the Halo brand.

Halo Infinite will have Halo Reach-inspired customization, too. Brian Jarrard – community manager – acknowledged that many fans view Reach's customization as the best iteration and said fans of reach's customization will be pleased with how the stuido is approaching Halo Infinite.

This ties into Halo 5: a few viewers noted how they'd like to see more customisationoptions in Halo 5, but 343 said that they were "running out of things to add to Halo: 5" . The impression murwo got from the stream was that the studio wants to wind down development on Halo: 5 and focus full-time on Infinite.

And that leads us nicely to release date information.

The general consensus from the studio is that 2019 is going to be a very busy year, where production is going to kick off properly.

Flighting Programs for Infinite will start small, notes 343, but over time will have more and more players. The beta periods will be opt-in, and will be in-progress right up to release.

There seems to be a suggestion that the beta for the game will come mid-to-late next year (2019) with a launch coming in potentially 2020.

Work is ongoing on the Halo Infinite engine, with story and art direction falling into place. We look forward to hearing more about the game in the new year. We'll keep you updated on all things Halo as they break.
