Viewers questioned the symbol on PewDiePies collar (Picture: PewDiePie/YouTube)

A recent PewDiePie video has prompted a fiery debate between viewers, following confusion over whether his shirt was emblazoned with the Iron Cross or the Georgian Bolnisi Cross.

The video, which sees the YouTube star admitting that his contribution to Jewish charity ADL (Anti-Defamation League) was a mistake, shows him wearing a shirt with symbols around the collar.

The shirt is thought to be designed by Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia, with the symbol being a Bolnisi Cross, a national symbol of Georgia.

However, many have mistaken it for the Iron Cross, a German military medal which was turned into a Nazi symbol by having the swastika super-imposed on it.

The confusion has resulted in a conversation about the similarity of the two symbols – and if it was a wise choice for the 29-year-old to wear the shirt in a video about a charity that fights anti-Semitism.

PewDiePie is now a Nazi because he wears a shirt that has a symbol that looks like a Iron Cross, but its really a Bolnisi Cross. But details dont matter when accusing someone of being a Nazi right? one fan asked.

Learn what is and isnt the iron cross, another advised.

Pewdiepie is NOT wearing a Iron Cross, he is wearing a Georgian Bolnisi cross. The shirt is by the Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia, one more added.

Got this wrong myself, #Pewdiepie is NOT wearing a Iron Cross, he is for some reason wearing a Georgian Bolnisi cross. The shirt is by the Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia.

Why he decided to wear this in a video talking about retracting a donation to the ADL is your own guess, one concerned viewer said.

Sure, @pewdiepie is wearing a Bolnisi cross, but you would think he would be smart enough to realize wearing ANYTHING that remotely resembles an iron cross in the very video he announces he is pulling out his ADL donation would be in bad taste, another argued.

Another claimed: Sure, he might be a coward, but hes also either an idiot or an opportunistic dogwhistler, as evidenced by his decision to wear an iron cross in a video about a jewish charity.
