Gamescom Opening Night Live – will it be a night to remember?

The opening night of Gamescom 2019 could see a number of new game reveals and gameplay premieres, as Google plan a new Stadia Connect.

Just as E3 2019 was a bit underwhelming compared to past years its probably going to be the same for Gamescom 2019, with many publishers not attending and little expected in the way of new announcements. Or perhaps not.

Gamescom itself starts on Tuesday, 20 August but for the first time ever theres going to be something called Gamescom Opening Night Live (ONL) hosted by The Game Awards Geoff Keighley.

Itll take place on Monday night, 19 August, at 7pm BST and the implication is that itll be similar to The Game Awards show, just without the awards bit. Although since theres not been one before its hard to say exactly what to expect.

The show will air live on the night and will include participation from companies including 2K, Activision, Bandai Namco, Bungie, Capcom, EA, Epic Games, Google Stadia, Koch Media/Deep Silver, Private Division, Sega, Square Enix, Sony, THQ Nordic, Ubisoft, and Xbox Game Studios.

However, its implied that the vast majority of these will only be showing footage of games that have already been announced, even if theyve never actually been seen in public before.

Debuting world premiere content is how the press release phrases it, which makes it possible to make some educated guesses as to what will be there.

Since Hideo Kojima will be in attendance the Sony game will obviously be Death Stranding, although that doesnt rule out there being other PlayStation exclusives too.

Microsoft has already promised to show off Minecraft Dungeons and Gears 5s Horde mode, while Activision is probably just Call Of Duty, 2K is Borderlands 3, Bungie is Destiny 2, Square Enix is Marvels Avengers and Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Epic Games is almost certainly just Fortnite.

Sega definitely does have a new game to announce, but while its not Creative Assemblys rumoured new first person shooter we believe it is a PC title.

EA is almost certainly set to unveil their new Need For Speed and may also reveal their new Plants Vs. Zombies shooter.
