Whats innate and whats taught? asks Kit Harington (Picture: Rex)

Kit Harington has suggested that something has gone wrong for young men, and that toxic masculinity may have been learned from TV shows.

I feel personally, quite strongly, at the moment — where have we gone wrong with masculinity? said the Game Of Thrones actor.

What have we been teaching men when theyre growing up, in terms of the problem we see now? Whats innate and whats taught? What is taught on TV, and in the streets, that makes young boys feel they have to be this certain side of being a man?

Harington is known for playing Jon Snow in the hit HBO series (Picture: HBO)

Kit is known for playing Jon Snow in the hit HBO series, but although Jon is considered one of the few good guys on the drama series, Kit himself has said that he believes Jon is violent and a psychopath.

Now however, Kit has told the Sunday Times Culture magazine that something has to change because clearly something has gone wrong for young men.

Toxic masculinity is a social science term used for men who showcase defined and over the top masculine traits, such as being too violent, unemotional, or sexually aggressive.

These toxic practices are also often used to reinforce dominance over women.

Kit is now starring in new play True West alongside Johnny Flynn, which features a whole lot of sibling rivalry, and after years of starring as Jon, Kit is delighted to be returning to the stage.

He said: Ive just worked in television for nine years. There is always an appeal to doing theatre for me. There never wont be.

[Johnny and I] were saying over lunch how we were both taken to the theatre constantly as kids. It really is bred into you as an English actor, this love.
