Donald Trump has launched yet another attack on a group of Democrat congresswomen who have accused him of racism, calling them the "four horsewomen of the apocalypse".

The US president has been embroiled in a row with the four representatives since Sunday, when he suggested they "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came".

Prime Minister Theresa May was among a number of high-profile politicians to denounce the remarks, which have led to the passing of a House of Representatives resolution denouncing Mr Trump for "racist comments".

Doubling down on his criticism of the congresswomen, the president used a Twitter post on Wednesday afternoon to quote Louisiana senator John Kennedy, who appeared on Fox News overnight.

"They're entitled to their opinion, they're Americans. Now I'm entitled to my opinion, & I just think they're left wing cranks. They're the reason there are directions on a shampoo bottle, & we should ignore them.

"I'm appalled that so many of our Presidential candidates are falling all over themselves to try to agree with the four horsewomen of the apocalypse. I'm entitled to say that they're Wack Jobs.' Louisiana Senator John Kennedy."

The four congresswomen at the centre of the row, known as The Squad, are Ayanna Pressley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar.

All are US citizens, with only the latter being born outside the country.
