Ed Sheeran's Divide is the most traded-in CD of the festive season

Sorry Ed Sheeran, seems that while tis the season of giving, tis also the season of giving away your album.

According to a spot of research by tech-swap site, Music Magpie, his latest record, Divide, is the most traded-in album over Christmas Day and Boxing Day, trading 38,471 units in 48 hours.

That’s a lot of division.

The research doesn’t suggest why Ed’s croonings seem to be so easily traded by punters, but our guess is that so many people already have the record that when ignorant aunts handed out another version on December 25 they turned to the site to offload it before offending anyone.

The album sold 672,000 units in its first week of release in March this year, that is the only explanation.

He’s not alone in the situation, though as mighty Adele came in third with 24,189 people handing over her album 25.

Again, with over 20 million copies sold, it has to be because so many dang people already own it.

With Ed worth a reported £37 million, and Adele worth over £135 million, we doubt the two of them are crying into their cereal.

It comes after Ed scored the coveted Christmas number one, with his song Perfect.

Not exactly a Christmas hit, he somehow made it happen, nabbing the top spot from the late, great George Michael and his festive banger Last Christmas.

‘Thank you very much for making Perfect Christmas Number 1,’ Ed said. ‘This is an actual dream come true and I’m very proud and happy. Thank you so much and have a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a Happy New Year.’
