Demi Moore has opened up on that iconic 1991 Vanity Fair cover which saw her pose naked at eight months pregnant.

The cover was considered controversial at the time but now the actress has revealed the image was originally only shot for her own family.

It was the one we did at the end for me and the family, and I said it would be amazing if they had the courage to put this on the cover, the 56-year-old told Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday.

And they came back and said they wanted to do it and was I okay with it? I think it was an important moment… to have the courage to change the way we looked at women when theyre pregnant.

Demi has recently detailed her life in her bombshell memoir Inside Out and shocked fans when she claimed she discovered her ex-husband, Ashton Kutcher, was cheating on her through a Google alert.

The former couple were apparently in the midst of trying for a baby using IVF when Demi received the devastating news of his infidelity through a phone notification.

The Ghost actress was wrapping work on her TV movie directorial debut, Five, in 2011, when she says she confronted Ashton and he admitted it.

She has said that her miscarriage, desperate need to become a mum again, and substance abuse contributed to the breakdown of her relationship with the younger actor.
