Carrie Underwood took the stage Sunday at the 53rd ACM Awards for the first time since a “freak accident” left her with a facial injury.

Her return was clearly an emotional one, as she sang her latest song, “Cry Pretty,” decked out in a silver fringe dress and silver tears.

The 35-year-old country singer injured herself after taking a fall at her home in November that resulted in stitches to her face and a broken wrist.

By the end of the song, the “Jesus Take The Wheel” singer was visibly moved and can be seen wiping tears away from her face as fellow performers roared with applause and gave her a standing ovation.

Earlier in the week, the country star shared a message with her fans about the status of her recovery.

“I just wanted to say hello and share some updates with you all… lots of exciting stuff happening. First off, physically, Im doing pretty darn good these days,” Underwood explained on her fan club website.

“My wrist is almost back to normal, about 90% there…and the docs say that last 10% will come in time,” she added. “And my face has been healing pretty nicely as well. I definitely feel more like myself than I have in a while. One of the silver linings for me in this healing process is the time Ive gotten to spend with Mike [Fisher, her husband] and Isaiah [Fisher, her son]. Ive been calling it forced relaxation. Sometimes I think things happen in order to make us slow down.”
