Below – the best things come to those that wait

After more than half a decade in production, the new game from the creators of Clash Of Heroes and Super Time Force is finally almost here.

Super Smash Bros. UltimateGame review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a game of the year contender

The average time needed to make a big budget video game is usually two to three years. Sometimes it can be longer but its pretty rare for it to be five or more, and almost unheard of for an indie game to take that long.

But Below has been underway for so long now were sure many people have forgotten all about it, but now it finally has a release date… and its next week.

To be more specific the stylish-looking roguelike will be out Friday, December 14 for both Xbox One and PC.

Despite all the delays Capybara has been very secretive about Below and insist that it features several secret elements that have never been revealed before – so be wary of spoilers.

We did get to play it back in April though, when we also spoke to co-founder Nathan Vella about the difficulties of working on such a long-term project and how the delays were primarily to make sure the game was as good as it could be.

More: Gaming

Below uses a top-down perspective, with an unusual isometric art style and features an unknown warrior exploring an even more mysterious island filled with traps and monsters.

The game features aspects of both roguelikes and survival games, but while some sections are randomly-generated Capybara has been at pains to make sure each level feels unique and memorable.

We cant wait for it, especially as it looks like a game thats absolutely perfect for long winter nights…
