Battlezone Gold Edition (XO) - fun in any reality

Battlezone Gold Edition – trundling onto Switch

Rebellion has announced it will release its Battlezone revamp on Switch, with optional new motion controls.

The Switch is getting another port from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, in the form of 80s arcade revival Battlezone Gold Edition.

The reboot was first released in 2016 as a PlayStation VR launch title, and remains one of the best shooters for the headset.

A year later it was repurposed, as the Gold Edition, as a normal, non-VR, game for Xbox One PlayStation 4 – and thats what the Switch version is based on.

The games stylised visuals shouldnt be any problem for the Switch, but interestingly Rebellion has gone to the effort of enabling cockpit motion controls – as you can see in the trailer above.

Other than that you get all the same content as the other versions, including online and local co-op, all the DLC ever released, and a retro-looking classic mode.

You can find our review of the Xbox One edition here, but we always liked the game and its unusual roguelike campaign structure.

Battlezone Gold Edition is due for release on November 8 but you can pre-order it now on the Switch eShop for a 15% discount, which comes out as £25.49 instead of £29.99.
