Red Dead Redemption 2 is a monster hit. Already since launching in late October, it has broken multiple records. First of all for the single-biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment.
The game sold over £570million in worldwide retail sales during its first three days, making Red Dead 2 the second-highest grossing entertainment launch of all time next to maker Rockstar Games previously released title, Grand Theft Auto V, which achieved over $1 billion in retail sell-through in three days.
But now the news and sales for the game have gone to a whole next level, as announced during the Take-Two Interactive earnings call on Thursday.
Total shipments for Red Dead Redemption 2 have now topped 17 million units!
And what's more, the game has now sold more units within its first eight days than the original Red Dead Redemption sold in its first eight years!

Here's a quick look at just some of the massive records Red Dead Redemption 2 has set since launch:
- Biggest opening weekend in retail sell-through across all entertainment releases (over $725 million);
- Second biggest launch (three days) in retail sell-through across all entertainment releases (next to Grand Theft Auto V);
- Biggest entertainment launch of 2018;
- Most pre-ordered full game ever on PlayStation Network;
- Biggest day one full game sales ever on PlayStation Network;
- Biggest first three days full game sales ever on PlayStation Network.
Needless to say, the PlayStation and Xbox console title game is storming the charts and it probably couldn't hurt the game's chances of being a game of the year contender at the Game Awards 2018 given the incredible critical reception the game has also achieved too.
But looking ahead, the growth and sales generated by the game is only set to get EVEN bigger.
Coming later this November Rockstar plan to launch Red Dead Redemption 2's multiplayer mode, Red Dead 2 Online.
Originally it wasn't known quite when the Online Beta would launch, but in the same earnings call, Take-Two Interactive's president and CEO, Strauss Zelnick, said:
"It's way too early to talk about Red Dead Redemption 2 Online, it hasn't released yet. It will launch in public beta towards the end of the month"
"Rockstar will have a lot more to say about it. We're not making any current predictions."
Those predictions are related to the question put to Zelnick which was specifically about how he thought Red Dead 2 Online will compare to the release of GTA Online.
But given just how much money GTA Online made for the company off the back of selling shark cards (microtransactions) and more in the game, we can only imagine that the net revenue from Red Dead Redemption 2 alone is set to absolutely skyrocket.
Not just in the coming weeks towards the end of the year, but potentially for months, maybe even years ahead.
