Fortnite Season 7 News: HUGE Update for Epic Games following new mobile announcement (Pic: EPIC GAMES)

Epic's monstrous Fortnite project is the game that just won't stop giving.

Ever since the company released Fortnite Battle Royale for free back in September 2017, the game has become one of the biggest earners for the massive company thanks to players' commitment to buying in-game V-Bucks to unlock skins and items for their character.

After a console and PC release in September 2017, Epic released the game on iOS in April 2018, and in doing so opened up an entirely new revenue stream for the game.

Since the rollout on iOS, it has been revealed this week, the game has raked in a massive $350 million via Apple platforms alone.

According to Sensor Towers Store Intelligence report, Fortnite has grossed more than $350 million to date from iPhone and iPad users alone, with a huge $55.4 million of that figure coming from October's sales alone.

That means last month saw a 6.3% uptick month-on-month, with Fortnite representing the 10th highest game for user spending across all iOS apps – meaning the game is more profitable than many apps available across both Google Play and iOS. Let that sink in: that's huge.

Sensor Tower also notes that Epic saw a massive 3.9 million new players drawn to the game during October alone. Fortnite has been downloaded a whopping 74.2 million times on iOS devices.

So what does that mean for Season 7?

It's good news for players and developers alike.

Thanks to the game's unprecedented growth, Epic has managed to secure $1.25 billion in new funding from seven international investors over the last month. Those investors include KKR, ICONIQ Capital, Smash Ventures, aXiomatic, Vulcan Capital, Kleiner Perkins and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

To save you the pain of Googling those companies, we can tell you that this money is being sunk into the game primarily in order to grow eSports and live events. So over the next few Seasons, you can expect Epic to focus more on the competitive side of the game.

We can also expect better server performance and maybe even less downtime as a result of the investment going into the technical, back-end side of the game.

It's a good time to be a Fortnite fan.
