It looks as though Microsoft might be playing their cards quite close to their chests for this next round of consoles.
While there were two different versions of the next Xbox were rumoured before, the complete lack of acknowledgement at E3 made it seem as though these rumours were just that. After all, if you have two bits of hardware to show off, both of which are coming out next year, then why wouldn't you make sure everyone knows about them. Especially given Microsofts flair for the dramatic, and the complete lack of Sony this year.
Well, according to Brad Sams, who is known as a bit of a Microsoft insider, Microsoft is still working on this magical second version. Rather than this being the all-singing-all-dancing version that we've seen so far, it would instead be focussed on working alongside Project xCloud, Microsoft's own streaming service.
This could make it exponentially cheaper than the powerhouse that we've been shown so far, which would be a lot more affordable for many people, assuming the internet can deal with it. That's the key issue here for many when it comes to streaming, the internet isn't always reliable, not to mention all of the times we've had to put up with services randomly being unavailable or going down. So, we will have to see just what happens.
In the video, Brad Sams has this to say: "They have an [xCloud] console box, which is a really low-power, low-latency device that is designed to connect directly to xCloud and give you a better gaming experience. Think about how [Google] Stadia works — they have that controller, that connects directly to the router, giving better performance and making the experience more seamless."
Keep in mind that although this might seem like one company copying the other, it's more likely that people just understand how potent streaming can be.
