Why is Fortnite down and when will it be back up?

Epic Games revealed that the Fortnite servers will be down from 12:00 GMT while they carry out the latest update, which include major changes to the Battle Royale map.

They haven’t given an estimate for when the servers will be back up, but they are likely to be down for around three hours because of the size of the update.

Downtime for V.2.2.0 will begin at approximately 7:00am ET (12:00 GMT) on Jan 18. Servers will be unavailable while updating. In the meantime glide over to the patch notes to see what’s coming: https://t.co/LbxTaiO4ha

What will be in the new Fortnite update?

As well as the usual bug fixes and small tweaks, the newest update is set to be one of the biggest yet.

Epic Games has confirmed that there will be new map additions for the first time since the game was launched last year.

It has been confirmed that it will include a number of new points of interest, with a lot of focus going onto the west side of the map.

This includes a city being introduced, as well as new named areas and more emphasis on ‘biomes’ such as the swamp and mountains.
