There arent many properties on the market that warrant their own photography exhibition. But thats exactly what this historical gem got back 2013, when the local independent Genesis Cinema displayed this unique property “in a state of glorious dereliction.”

Built in 1848, St Clement was originally an unusually grand workhouse complex in Bow designed by architect Richard Tress, with Siberian marble pillars, a chapel with an organ, stained-glass windows and a dining hall 100 feet long. It even had an early form of central heating.
Then it became St Clements Hospital for the City of London Union in 1874, then the Bow Institution, before reverting back to its original name to become a psychiatric unit. It was taken over by The Royal London Hospital in the late 60s, then eventually closed down in 2005 as part of organisational changes in Barts Health NHS Trust.
Ever since, this miraculous building has been empty, apart from a brief hiatus last year when Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle hosted community film festival called Shuffle there.
