Japans answer to E3 is currently in full swing but theres still much more to come for Death Stranding, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and more.
To be honest were being generous comparing the Tokyo Game Show to E3, but it certainly used to be just as important – before the collapse of the Japanese games industry during the last generation.
Japanese developers have seen a major resurgence in recent years though and so the Tokyo Game Show has also become more important again, with the first day having major reveals for Death Stranding, Project Resistance (the new Resident Evil multiplayer spin-off), and Final Fantasy VII Remake.
But heres the best of the rest of the reveals so far, as well as a schedule for each company on what to expect over the next few days.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon Western trailer

Beyond the headliners there are plenty of other games trying to share the limelight at the Tokyo Game Show, with Yakuza: Like A Dragon getting its first Western trailer – although theres still no release date more specific than 2020. Its mostly a story trailer and doesnt show any of the new turn-based combat system or the go-karting thats just been added to the Japanese website.
R-Type Final 2 gameplay
This years Tokyo Game Show was the first outing for the improbably named R-Type Final 2, which is being made by several ex-Irem developers after a successful Kickstarter. The video above is from Japanese mag Famitsu and looks exactly like what fans were hoping for in terms of a new sequel to the king of 2D shooters. The game is due out on all formats at the end of next year.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Rajang release date
Monster Hunter expansion Iceborne has already been a huge hit in Japan, going straight to number one with over a quarter of a million sales. As Capcom promised though it will have its own stream of free DLC upgrades and the first is going to be Rajang, one of the strongest creatures in the game and a firm fan favourite (not least because of its Dragon Ball Z homage). Hell be out on 10 October, although the PC version of the expansion still isnt out till January.
Shenmue III Tokyo Game Show trailer
As unlikely as it still seems, Shenmue III is scheduled to come out on 19 November for PlayStation 4 and PC, so youd expect it have a big presence at the Tokyo Game Show. Thats exactly whats happened and has brought with it a brand-new Western trailer called Spirit Of The Land. Its still just a flyover of some of the game world though, with nothing that looks like actual gameplay, which is a little concerning at this stage in the game.

Nioh 2 release date
The sequel to the excellent SoulsBorne-esque Nioh has gone a bit under the radar so far, but Koei Tecmo has confirmed itll launch early next year (which seems a bit of a risk given how busy that period is). Its got a new Tokyo Game Show trailer too, which features an awful lot of animal spirits and monsters. It looks good though and should at least partially make up for the fact that FromSoftwares Elden Ring wont be at the Tokyo Game Show this year.
