The Last of Us 2 Release Date Leak: More Good and Bad news for fans of Naughty Dog (Pic: SONY)

Earlier this week PS4 fans rightly got rather excited at the prospect of The Last of Us 2 releasing in 2019.

This was largely due to an official page on Sony PlayStation's website, which saw the game grouped together with several more titles under a banner labled 'Coming Soon'.

For clarity this included the likes of Days Gone, Mortal Kombat 11, Rage 2, Control, and Concrete Genie: all with confirmed release dates sometime between now and the end of the year.

The suggestion, then, is that The Last of Us 2 release date, so far shrouded in mystery, would be a 2019 release for Sony's PS4 console.

It was far from concrete, but certainly interesting when you consider that both Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima wern't also displayed under that same label.

Only now, there's another twist in the story, which could be either good or bad depending on if you're a glass half full kind of person.

Since the news broke earlier this week for TLOU2, Sony have since updated the page and removed any mention of The Last of Us 2 from the Coming Soon section.

Now, you can take this two ways.

1) Sony have removed the listing because they've been rumbled by a mistake and are trying to cover their tracks until they feel comfortable with making an announcement.

2) Colin the intern accidentally added one two many games to the section and Sony are simply removing the lislting to avoid further confusion.

It really depends on how much you believed in the initial news, but untill Sony (or Naughty Dog) deem it the right time to announce anything official, it's hard to say for sure.

That being said, this isn't the first indicator that we've had which suggested a 2019 release for the long-anticipated sequel.

Firstly, The Last of Us 2 featured prominently at at Sonys's Destination PlayStation event in late February.

For those who don't know, this is an event for retailers where Sony showcase the products releasing in the upcoming year.

And shortly following this event we saw some Leaked TLOU2 marketing material at the start at March, which suggested the game is coming in October 2019.

There has been no official communication from either Sony or Naughty Dog to confirm any of this. Why would they?

But you know what they say, there's no smoke without fire.
