Russian officials Monday dismissed claims of the United Kingdom and Netherlands that it had engaged in hacking operations in the West, local media reported.
“Due to the campaign of disinformation carried out in The Hague the Dutch ambassador will be summoned to the foreign ministry on Monday,” a source in the ministry told a state news agency, according to AFP.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov added today that the four Russian citizens who were detained in the Netherlands in April over hacking attempts, had been on a “routine” trip, Reuters reported.
The four suspects are believed by Dutch and British authorities to be members of the GRU intelligence agency who engaged in attempts to hack the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and other organizations.
Moscows responses come days after European countries including the U.K., the Netherlands and EU officials accused Russia of a series of high-level hacking attempts earlier this year.
