Robert Garrison has died, aged 59.

The Karate Kid star passed away in hospital on Friday, following a long health battle.

His family confirmed the sad news, telling TMZ he had been in the hospital for over a month, and was suffering with kidney and liver issues.

The publication states his organs shut down.

They are currently planning his funeral arrangements.

Tributes poured in for the star on social media, with one fan commenting: RIP Rob Garrison aka tommy from the karate kid #tommy #cobrakai.

Roberts acting career began back in the 1970s, with appearances in Starship Invasions, and Search and Destroy.

But his most notable role was playing Tommy in The Karate Kid, back in 1984.

He starred alongside Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita in the classic film, and was one of the members of the Cobra Kai dojo.
