Red Dead 2 Online Release: Bad news, Multiplayer Beta and trailer NOT coming anytime soon? (Pic: Rockstar)

People are excited about getting more news about Red Dead Redemption 2 and its online mode today – but we have some bad news; we seriously don't think it's coming this week, let alone today.

Rockstar – as fond as the developer is of dropping surprise announcements on fans – usually teases them first, giving fans at least 24 hours to ramp up their excitement.

You've seen this in instances such as the first trailer reveal in 2017, and with the gameplay trailers, we saw released throughout this year, too.

It's been Rockstar's way for years. We even remember way back before GTA 5 launched waiting a day for that trailer to arrive, and we don't see that changing anytime soon.

Considering most of the US is also wrapped up in Thanksgiving right now – when companies are usually reticent to drop big announcements, with all their staff off with their families instead of at work – we don't think we're going to get a release this week.

In fact, we doubt we'll see any sort of announcement this week, despite fans convincing themselves it's bound to happen to capitalise on Thanksgiving.

Take a quick glance at the Red Dead Redemption sub-reddits and you'll find those desperate for a trailer to release with more details, and many with comments like:

“People always watch football on Thanksgiving. Show trailers for it on whatever channels show football and boom everyone knows about it”

Again, we can't see this happening either.

You only have to look at how Rockstar has previously not used big events to show off their games in the past.

Remember how hyped people were for that Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer you thought was coming during the Superbowl back in February?

And remember how upset you were when all you got was a variety of M&M ads and Rebel Wilson in a bathtub selling Amazon's Alexa?

You're probably setting yourself up for the same disappointment.

We're certain a trailer IS coming, since, Rockstar has done this before.

The online mode for GTA 5 launched weeks after the main game launched on Xbox 360 and PS3, and before the mode actually came out, Rockstar released a dedicated trailer detailing what players could expect to see in the multiplayer portion.

Instead, it's our belief that we're much more likely to see the company announce a trailer early next week, then show the actual video mid-week, before the beta launches right at the end of the month.

This would line up with Take-Two's announcement of when we'd see Red Dead 2 Online launch, which was noted in the earnings call earlier this month, but only vaguely framed as "towards the end of the month."

Either way, we doubt Red Dead Redemption 2 Online, which is being billed as a multiplayer beta, will be pushed back any further.

Despite this, the lack of information has some fans of the game over on Reddit growing impatient, however.

"End of November” Funny joke Rockstar," said one commenter.

"Watch a “delay” get announced on November 30th" says another.

"I smell a delay and it stinks" says a third. We hope for Rockstar's sake it reveals what it's planning soon.

But with years of development and a whole month since release, we suspect Rockstar will stick to their promise.

Let's just hope they don't leave us waiting right up until the 30th of November to finally get our hands on the online mode.
