Rebel Wilson has returned $4.2million (£3.27million) after her defamation case payout was slashed from her Bauer Media win.

Back in 2017, the star was awarded a $4.7million (£3.6million) payout after it was found the magazine publisher was guilty of defaming the 38-year-old, by publishing stories that claimed she had lied about her name, age and upbringing in Sydney.

Now the Australian actress has paid back the sum it appears she is still not finished with the case, as she has lodged an application for her own appeal before the High Court.

Whatever decision is made by the court should see an end to the two-year between both parties.

However earlier this year Wilsons huge payout was slashed by Victorias Court of Appeal, after Bauer Media appealed and called it excessive, meaning theyll now pay her just $600,000 (£338,000).

Rebel wasnt at the hearing, but tweeted her followers to say that she had already won the case and that it was only the amount of damages that had been challenged.

Additionally, Im away on location in Europe filming right now. The Court of Appeal in Australia will be handing down their decision in the morning re my defamation case against @bauermedia . As Ive said before, I have already WON the case and this is UNCHALLENGED! she wrote.

She added: What happens tomorrow is to do with the losers @bauermedia quibbling about how much they now have to pay me. While this case was never about the money for me, I do hope to receive as much as possible to give away to charities and to support the Australian film industry.

Rebel had originally pledged to donate the money to charity when she won the case in September last year.

She said: Justice Dixon has awarded me a record sum and Im extremely grateful for that. It is 4 times the Australian record. To me though, this case wasnt about the money.
