Pokemon GO PvP: Release Date Update, Start Times, APK News and new Loading Screen INCOMING (Pic: NIANTIC)

Niantic is due to launch trainer battles and PvP in Pokemon Go very soon.

There seems to be a variety of hints that point towards the update dropping this week – the biggest tease coming in the form of a new update that's been added to the game that dataminers have pulled apart to reveal all the files the game needs for PvP to go live.

Released on December 8, the 0.131.1 update contains code required for the upcoming Trainer Battles feature, and also includes some UI changes and other bits of content that are certainly attention-grabbing if you've been paying attention to the game.

You can see the most important bits – as well as when we're expecting these features to go live – below.

Pokemon Go PvP update – Start times

If previous Pokemon Go updates are anything to go by, we're likely to see the rollout for the trainer battle update to come in waves, starting with level 40 players and working down the list.

Typically, in the UK, updates like this tend to go live at 9am. So we could likely see the highest level trainers get the update earlier in the week, with the update coming over the next few days for other players.

We'll update you as soon as any of this is formally confirmed by Niantic.

Pokemon Go PvP update – New Loading Screen

The last loading screen change we saw came in Summer 2018 to celebrate the arrival of Alolan Pokemon in Pokemon Go. This was brought to the game on June 19th 2018 – and players have been pretty eager to see a changeover since autumn.

Luckily, a datamine has revealed the change is coming: we're now going to see an exciting new image featuring an Electivire battling it out with a Lucario as two trainers command the Pokemon from the sidelines.

It's very atmospheric. You can see it embedded below.

Pokemon Go PvP update – How to get Sinnoh Stones

Niantic has confirmed that Sinnoh Stones will be special rewards available to earn by battling Team Leaders following the launch of Pokemon Go PvP.

Team leaders (Spark, Candela and Blanche) will each have special sets of Pokemon you can battle and if you emerge victoriously, you'll be able to nab yourself the game's most sought-after new consumable: a Sinnoh Stone.

More information about how these player-versus-CPU battles will work has yet to be revealed, but it's nice to know that there is another way to get these Gen 4 evolution items outside of Weekly Breakthrough Research rewards.
