PSA – GENGAR RAIDS IN UK START AT 10AM!

Earlier this week the Pokemon GO Halloween 2018 event came to its natural end. But the supernatural high-jinx isn't over just yet, as trainers can look forward to an extra special treat: Gengar Day.

For no apparent reason, Niantic is rolling out a special raid day for the Gen 1 Ghost Pokemon.

Now, you might already have a Gengar, so you might be thinking that this event isn't all that special, BUT, what if we told you that you might be able to encounter a Shiny Gengar! Yup, now we're talking.

On top of this, the Gengar will know two exclusive moves: Lick and Psychic.

All of this takes place tomorrow, on Saturday, November 3, and like your standard community day event, you've only got a limited amount of time to make the most of this opportunity.

So, unfortunately, you've only got three hours to raid against and capture the elusive Pokemon. But thankfully, Gengar Day will give you five free Raid Passes to get you started.

For everything you need to know, including when the event starts, the best way to counter Gengar in raids and much more, keep reading.

When is Gengar Day taking place?

Well as we mentioned, it's all kicking off tomorrow, Saturday, November 3, but as we alluded to, it's not all day. You'll have a very specific 3 hour window to make the most of this opportunity.

Incidentally, you can only hold one free raid pass at a time. But you will be able to pick up a total of 5 for free across the whole 3-hour window.

So here are the global times for when the event gets started.

Asia-Pacific region: 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. JST (GMT +9)

Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. UTC (GMT +0)

The Americas and Greenland: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. PT (GMT -8)

What are your chances of getting a shiny?

So not all Gengar you face in raids will be shiny. Like any shiny, it's simply a case of pot luck when you encounter it.

Equally, you won't know if it's a shiny until after you've raided against the Gengar and you meet the Pokemon on the capture screen.

In addition, Silph Road research has estimated that shiny rates for Legendary Raid Bosses are roughly 1/19 for those special raid days.

Whether they choose to lower this, given that Gengar isn't exactly a Legendary Pokemon, is up for debate.

But we would suggest that you should aim for 19 raids within the three-hour window to give yourself the best odds of capturing that shiny Gengar.

The good news at least is that Niantic has also confirmed that Gengar will be the only raid boss spawning from tier raids during the 3-hour window.

Best Gengar Counters

Gengar is a Ghost-type Pokemon, with 31256 Boss CP – a Tier 4 boss.

According to Pokemon GO Hub, you want to focus on using GHOST, PSYCHIC, DARK and GROUND Pokemon to take down Gengar.

So stick to Shadow Ball Mewtwo, Groudon, Bite / Crunch Tyranitar, Espeon and Psychic Latios.

If those pokemon are not viable options for you, you can also use Alakazam with Confusion and Future Sight or Gardevoirwith Confusion and Shadow Ball.
