Despite Matt Lauers dramatic and disgraceful exit from NBC, some employees havent sworn off all contact with the former host.

NBC morning anchor Hoda Kotb revealed she still keeps in touch with Lauer, despite being a relatively vocal advocate for social justice and womens rights. (RELATED: Matt Lauer Shifts His Focus To Doing One Thing These Days)

Kotb, who was recently named one of the Hollywood Reporters most powerful people in New York Media, revealed she keeps in touch with Lauer despite the complicated nature of their relationship.

“We keep in touch with him. I mean, look, this is one of those complex situations,” Kotb said. “Ive known him since I started working at NBC [in 1998]. When I was sick with breast cancer, he was the first to call. He helps and helped in ways that . . . you know, he was incredible in that way. There is that Matt and then theres the Matt that the accusers speak of.”

Lauers former and Kotbs current cohost Savannah Guthrie described Lauers firing as “crushing.”

Im sure all of Lauers victims must agree with that sentiment. They must have been very hurt that Guthrie and Kotb had to be woken up in bed and given such horrific information. The bravery to carry a morning show after an alleged sexual predator gets fired is truly unparalleled. Its hard not to feel bad for Kotb and Guthrie, who each make millions of dollars every year and claim to know nothing about Lauers misdeeds. I cant imagine how they get out of bed every morning. Theyre the real victims here.
