Rapper Cardi B has appealed for the safe return of her wig after she flung it into the crowd at Wireless Festival in north London.

The 26-year-old was a headline act at the event on Friday and enjoyed an incredible reception from the thousands of revellers in attendance.

Excitement reached fever pitch when she launched her hairpiece towards the crowd, but she expressed regret about the move not long after her set came to an end.

In a tweet posted in the early hours of Saturday, the mother-of-one – real name Belcalis Almanzar – appealed: "I GOT CARRIED AWAY …….I want my wig back:/ Dm me ."

She included a video filmed from the crowd of the moment she threw the wig, which showed her kneeling on the stage before ripping it off mid-song, leaving screaming fans to fight it out for a souvenir.

Unfortunately for the Money rapper, who took to the stage alongside Lil Nas X to duet his breakout hit Old Town Road, its return seems unlikely.

Many of her fans have advised her that it will end up being put up for auction on eBay, and one seller claiming to be in possession of the wig is already commanding bids of almost $14,000 (£11,180).

The listing says Cardi B "just threw her wig directly at me and my girlfriend" during the gig, adding they "would've never imagined me and my girlfriend would be leaving the festival with the wig of the ONE AND ONLY CARDI B!!".

Cardi B – who wears an assortment of hairpieces during public appearances – made history earlier this year when she became the first solo woman to win the best rap album Grammy for her debut record, Invasion Of Privacy.
