Because of the nature of the allegations, the statute of limitations does not apply.
This is a huge development in the Weinstein case, especially after there was plenty of speculation about whether or not he would ever be charged with a crime after all the allegations.

Weinstein was one of the most powerful players in all of Hollywood, and was considered arguably the most important figure in the town prior to his downfall after tons of allegations of misconduct. His former company, The Weinstein Company, is now going bankrupt and hes getting charged. This could be another step in the floodgates opening up even more.
