Ten alleged gang members have been charged in connection with a series of burglaries at the homes of celebrities including Rihanna in Los Angeles, court documents show.

Investigators say the addresses of basketball superstar LeBron James and actor Matt Damon were also found on a list of potential targets for break-ins.

Officials say the victims were chosen when their social media postings and schedules indicated they would be away from home.

Southern California's City News Service has reported that the 10 men have been charged with conspiracy and several other counts, including burglary and home-invasion robbery.

According to the AP news agency, court documents show the homes of baseball star Yasiel Puig and American football player Robert Woods, as well as Rihanna, were among those hit in the raids.

Police announced four arrests at a news conference in October, where they displayed recovered items including handbags, jewellery and mobile phones.

Three of those four were released pending further investigation. Two were then re-arrested and are among those charged.
