Wolfenstein II: The Unimpressed Colossus

So I finished Wolfenstein 2 the other day. Id deliberately avoided spoilers so came into the story not knowing what to expect. Its fair to say I was unimpressed. The gunplay was good and there were one or two good set pieces, but I felt the ending was rushed. Does anyone recommend the DLC? I got the game cheap so dont mind buying the extra if the story is worth it or it brings something new and interesting with it.

Praise The Sum

Perfect comment to end on in your news article about the Dark Souls trilogy coming out on the same date as the Switch version of Dark Souls Remastered, it really does seem like a kick in the teeth.

Surely, Nintendo cant be happy about it? They were the ones to first reveal the remaster, and are the last to receive it.

It would have been a definite purchase for me originally, but by now Ive lost all enthusiasm and cant justify it – I already own it on PC. Its a real shame, and Im sure others will feel similar. I completely expect sales to be disappointing, which will be used as the excuse for no other souls games appearing on the Switch.

Saying that, if youve never played it but do own a Switch – get it!

Matt

SC: It is a very bizarre decision unless theres some future release date shuffling. But even then, the cat is out the bag on a superior trilogy collection over a mere remaster. Straight up, palava.

Dice-y royale

Hearing Battlefield Vs Battle Royale mode isnt being made by DICE has me slightly concerned itll be a tacked-on job. While Im not a big fan of PUBG or Fortnite, I was hoping they would maybe offer a fresh spin which could get reluctant old farts like me to maybe latch onto the craze.

Im still very excited about the title Battle Royale mode or no Battle Royale mode judging by whats been shown so far, but it does seem odd DICE wouldnt want to be more hands-on with developing a significant new chunk of their title.

Devil May Flirt

Was I the only one reading a bit of flirty banter into the GC and translator conversation in the Devil May Cry interview?

Dont blame me, its the internet predisposition to ship *everything* thats made people this way. Hmm maybe Ninja actually does understand that all too well *walks off pondering deep thoughts*

SC: Theres way too much hip speak in this letter for us to comprehend. Please accept our smile and flirty wink.

Game swap

Ive been thinking about all the games I spent in my youth playing for hours even though they were terrible. Now looking at my growing backlog, Im sort of wishing there was some time machine so I could trade my time with one game and plough it into another.

So lets throw it to the inbox. What game youve spent hours in your childhood playing would you swap with one lying on your dusty shelf? Id go for Shadows Of The Empire on the Nintendo 64 in exchange for Metal Gear Solid V (still havent got round to it).

SC: We spent many a mortal day wasting energy on Jedi Power Battles on the PlayStation One which, in hindsight, was awful despite the hilarious glitches. Swapsies for XCOM 2?

Stick or twist

Is there any games anyones surprised theyre still playing? It suddenly dawned on me how its been two years since Overwatch came out and Im still regularly firing it up, along with For Honor.

I suppose its the sign of a great game and the extra support developers are now ploughing into their top tier titles, so is there game which has surprised you in how much youre still playing it?

Judging by the charts, I imagine theres a lot of GTA V still going around.

Dark Souls fatigue?

As a fan of Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Im concerned From Software could be pushing its tried and true formula a little too far with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

It will no doubt be an incredible game delivering what theyre known for, but a part of me is starting to wonder whether the Souls formula is becoming a little too familiar. Bloodborne made enough combat tweaks to make it feel fresh, but can they really pull it off again with another IP?

Ill obviously pick up Sekiro because Im a sucker for those games, but this is an advanced flag over what could end up being Souls fatigue. Dont say I didnt warn ya.

SC: Let us know if you get fatigue as well happily swipe souls and return to the land of the living. These inbox dwellings arent so kind to the complexion.

This week's Hot Topic

With Gamescom happening this week, almost every video game that will be out for Christmas has been announced and shown to the public. So the question for this weekends Inbox is which ones are you intending to get?

With the possible exception of some, probably minor, Nintendo Switch titles youre probably already very familiar with all the major releases this autumn, so which ones have impressed you the most? Are there any youve already pre-ordered and what others are you interested in?

Which are you waiting for the reviews on and which have you already discounted? How closely do you monitor new games as they edge towards release and do you try to know as much as possible before release or as little as you can? E-mail your comments to: [email protected]
