Fortnite Update 7.01 Early Patch Notes: Season 7 Swords LTM, Map changes, Server Downtime (Pic: EPIC GAMES)

Fortnite Battle Royale and Save the World players last week received a major new update as Epic Games released a boatload of new Fortnite Season 7 content.

We had the launch of Season 7, a new creative mode and also The Block, which is effectively a staging area to showcase some of the best new creations in the creative mode.

But now it's time for the games weekly Tuesday update and it's likely that the forthcoming update will add a few more features as well as making plenty of fixes to the game.

New updates usually drop at around 8am GMT in the morning with patch notes also going live at the same time.

Although we can't say for certain, it seems a good bet that there will be some sort of update tomorrow from Epic Games.

It's possible this could coincide with some small downtime as well, which normally lasts for around 2 hours.

Keep reading for a look at some of the upcoming changes we're expecting in the game

ICE KING SWORD LTM

Earlier today Epic Games official Fortnite Twitter account posted a new trailer which seems to suggest a new sword weapon is coming to the game.

It's not known currently if this is going to be in the form of a new LTM (perhaps similar to the Thanos LTM) or as simply a new high level weapon of some sorts.

We're certainly interested to see how the sword will work: we don't have melee weapons in the game, except for the stock harvesting tools.

Will it be a one-hit kill? Will it be able to deflect incoming fire? Will it confer mad buffs when you pick it up? We have so many questions.

In the trailer, we see a single character exert some effort to pull the sword from a stone slab, so it's possible that with the trailer now live, it could be coming this week.

Check out the trailer below.

MAP CHANGES

The other thing worth noting from the above trailer is that it's actually a wholly new Season 7 area.

And this certainly plays into some leaks from the tail end of last week where Youtuber, StanPlay, found a new village area underneath the Polar Peak Iceberg.

He did this through a length process in Playground mode which we're not going to explain here, but it involves a port-a-fort, some jiggery-pokery and respawning a few times on the map.

Further to this, some datamined files also hinted that the game could see Polar Peak melt to reveal the village, but it's likely a slower process over the course of a few days.

At least that's the thought process given the files indicated files which included 'CastleMelt_A', 'CastleMelt_B' and 'CastleMelt_C'.

When this will happen is anybody's guess, but given we see this location in the above trailer, you would imagine it's sometime soon.
