Fortnite Alpha Tournament LIVE: How it Works, How to get points and What are Pins? (Pic: EPIC GAMES)

Fortnite Battle Royale launched a brand new update on Tuesday and with it introduced a whole heap of new tournament features for the game.

Essentially this is allowing a pathway and opportunity for every player to compete directly alongside the Fortnite pros.

Best of all, it's open to everyone. That includes you, me and everyone of any ability. You don't need to be a Fortnite Pro like Ninja to compete.

How do in-game Tournaments work?

Each tournament has a series of scheduled dates and times during which the competition will be run. Each of these scheduled sessions is a completely clean slate – all players will begin with the same score and compete over several hours of intense competition to earn as many points as possible.

Players can earn points by either achieving high placements or eliminating multiple opponents.

Matchmaking during a tournament session will pair players with similar point standings, so if youre playing well within the session youll find yourself matched with stronger opponents. If youre struggling then you should find an easier time the longer the session goes on.

What are Pins?

Tournaments will feature a target score to strive towards – reaching this score will award you with a shiny pin celebrating your accomplishment.

In the future, earning a pin may advance you to the next round of a tournament or qualify you to win prizes.

Points not Updating?

This appears to be an issue Epic Games are aware of. We suspect they'll be updating everyone's stats in due course. Here's what they've told fans online:

"We're aware of an issue with tournament points not being updated correctly. We're investigating the issue and will update when we know more."

Alpha Tournament

It's live right now and is the very first (solo) tournament Epic Games are running.

This will last until October 21st, after which, as mentioned, everything will reset.
