Jennifer Aniston fans have speculated about a possible reunion with her ex-husband Brad Pitt, following her separation from Justin Theroux.
Aniston and Theroux, who married in August 2015, confirmed they are splitting in a statement to "reduce any further speculation" following rumours that they were parting ways.
They said the decision to split "was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year."
However, in the midst of the split news, fans sent Twitter into overdrive with the possibility of her rekindling her relationship with Pitt.
Aniston and Pitt started dating in 1998 and quickly became one of the most high-profile star couples of the moment.
They married in 2000 but split in 2005, and Pitt then became romantically involved with his Mr & Mrs Smith co-star Angelina Jolie, who he later went on to marry and have children with.
Although they fell in love on the set of the film, Pitt has always denied claims that he cheated on Aniston.
Pitt and Jolie split in 2016 and, following Aniston and Theroux's statement, fans have started to form theories that the ex-spouses – who are now both single – could be in line for a reunion.
Former star of US reality series The Hills, Spencer Pratt was among those tweeting about Aniston and Pitt.
He wrote: "Jen and Brad getting back together."
Another person quipped: "Hearing Jens split from Justin. Fake Me: That sucks…. Real me: Jen and Brad reunion? Make it happen God!"
"Jen and Brad Pitt are now both single at the same time so … fingers CROSSED people," one wrote, while another declared: "Calling it now. Jen and Brad are gonna get back together."
One fan said they had "heard rumours for a Friends reunion", referring to the sitcom that made Aniston famous, but added: "Brad and Jen are both single again, I am more interested in that reunion? #TBH #BradandJen."
"Coincidence that Brad Pitt and Jen Aniston are BOTH SINGLE rn??? I think not," another fan said.
However, the idea of the former couple getting back together was not welcomed by some.
"Hey, people cheering for Jen and Brad to get back together: not everything from the 90s needs a reboot," one tweeter said.
Another wrote: "I can't be the only one with my fingers crossed that Brad Pitt and Jen don't reunite."
One weary fan said they did not have the "strength" for more stories relating to Aniston and Pitt, years after their marriage ended.
They added: "I can't do this again. I CAN'T DO THIS AGAAAINNNNNN."
