As if 2017 wasn’t good enough for Ed Sheeran, it looks like his good times are carrying on into 2018.

Ed’s claimed the very first number one slot of this year, both with his single Perfect and his album Divide. What a way to kick off the New Year.

Having nabbed the Christmas top spot of 2017, Ed has now become the most downloaded of the last seven days, giving him his fifth week at number one, according to Official Charts.

Eminem’s River came in at number two, with Big Shaq’s Man’s Not Hot at number three, Rita Ora Anywhere number four and Camila Cabello’s Havana at number five.

He also reigned supreme on the albums chart, ahead of Sam Smith’s The Thrill Of It All.

And he’s got even more to look forward to – Ed’s other success comes in the form of being transformed into an actual Simpson, for which the trailer has just been released.

In the brief trailer, Ed is seen taking up the role of Brendan, a love interest for Lisa Simpson. Lisa appears typically unimpressed as Ed’s character finishes playing the piano accompanied by her on the saxophone, leading him to moan: ‘You didn’t applaud?’

The short clip also featured Dad Homer Simpson who was less than impressed with the pair’s musical session as he is seeing banging on the wall in response to their noise.

Hopefully it’ll turn out to be a bit more successful than his Game Of Thrones cameo.

Ed himself even said he wouldn’t be making a reappearance in the HBO show following the backlash to his character.

Speaking to MTV News, Ed said: ‘We were all quite young, those soldiers. I doubt I’m going to survive for that long, to be honest, when there are dragons in the world. ‘No-one wants to see me come back. I wanted to be a cameo in it, and I’ve done the cameo. I’m cool with it, though. I enjoyed it.’
