Bungie is releasing a free-to-play version of Destiny 2, named New Light, that allows anyone to play the game for nothing.
Destiny 2 is an online-only first person shooter developed by Halo creators Bungie. Its been out since 2017 and, along with the original, has helped to revolutionise modern online games.
Although its not exactly a massive multiplayer game, where you can see masses of people at once, it takes certain aspects from that genre and uses them to create a hub world where a decent amount of players from all over can meet and play together.
Even when you think youre alone youre mostly not; as you can bump into other characters on your journey and shoot aliens together in a non-verbal mutual alliance. Youll rarely go through long periods without seeing someone else and yet its still possible to play the game entirely on your own if you want.
Build your legend and dive right in alongside your friends.
Destiny 2: New Light is FREE for all players this September.

The majority of Destiny is player vs. enemy (otherwise known as PvE) where you only fight computer-controlled adversaries. However, if you do want to face off against human competitors then the Crucible arena is where you can do that in Destinys popular PvP (player vs. player) mode.
A lot has happened to Destiny 2 since it was first released in 2017, but the most significant is that Bungie split with original publisher Activision last year, giving them complete control of the game and the ongoing franchise. Which is what has lead to the release of the free-to-play New Light.

New Light is Bungies attempt at a free-to-play game for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC via Steam, and Google Stadia. You can play substantial portions of the games content without paying a single penny but not everything is included in the deal.
All Destiny 2 players will be automatically converted to the free version of New Light when it launches and they will keep all their purchases and entitlements, such as expansions.
How much content does New Light have?
A generous part of Destiny 2 is available with the free version; you get access to all of Destiny 2s year one content, which includes two complete expansions – Curse Of Osiris and Warmind, with no cut content and all stories and quests.

You can also explore all planetary locations, including newer ones such as Tangled Shore and Dreaming City from the Forsaken expansion.
Players will also have access to the Gambit matchmaking mode, as well as three Raids, all Strikes, and competitive multiplayer mode The Crucible.
Will I be able to access anything from Shadowkeep in New Light?
Yes, there will be certain parts of Bungies seventh major expansion, called Shadowkeep, that free users will be able to access. So instead of being locked out of the brand new content anyone playing the free version can patrol the new Moon location, access the opening mission, challenge the two latest Strikes, and access new Crucible updates.
On top of that, any significant feature changes and seasonal rewards will also be available to all New Light players.
