Sunset Overdrive - brighter than a British summer

Sunset Overdrive – now property of Sony

Despite being an Xbox exclusive Sony now owns the rights to Insomniac Games Sunset Overdrive but there doesnt seem much chance of a sequel.

Although Microsoft is still on a spending spree for first party developers the biggest acquisition story of the year so far has been Sony buying Marvels Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games.

In practical terms it wont really make that much difference as most of their games have been Sony exclusives anyway… with one obvious exception.

Originally released as an Xbox One launch exclusive in 2014, Sunset Overdrive is an open world action platformer thats kind of a cross between Jet Set Radio and Ratchet & Clank.

Its not quite as fun as that sounds but it was certainly good and for years fans have been hoping for signs of a sequel, but that now seems more unlikely than ever.

Sony has confirmed they do own the rights, but when asked if thered be a PlayStation 4 port Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Inside Games he was instead, looking forward to future titles.

Something may have been lost in the translation there, but we think he was probably being purposefully vague and that a remaster or sequel is pretty unlikely.
