The upcoming remaster of Criterion’s classic racer will include Guns ‘n’ Roses on the soundtrack, but no in-game purchases.
Not only is Burnout Paradise Remastered really happening but it seems as if EA is putting a genuine effort into recreating the decade-old original, including its soundtrack.
Licensed soundtracks are a particular problem for remasters because often the licence only lasts a certain period of time and companies consider it too expensive to extend it – which in the past has ruined re-releases of Dreamcast-era games like Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio.
But according Ghost Games’ Ben Walke the soundtrack will be exactly the same as before, including the title Guns ‘n’ Roses track. He even offered a link to the whole line-up on Spotify.
Ghost Games is the studio responsible for Need For Speed Payback, whose failure last year is likely to be the reason why EA authorised the Burnout Paradise remaster in the first place.
Walke’s comments imply that it is they who’ll be making the remaster, but either way he certainly seems to know a lot about it – including whether it has microtransactions or not.
The original didn’t, but the remaster’s listing on PSN initially made reference to optional ‘in-game purchases’. But according to Walke that’s an error and there aren’t any.
Update: EA has clarified that the developer for the remaster is Stellar Entertainment, who include some of the team that worked on the original game – which sounds extra promising.

Walke also confirmed that there would be eight-player online multiplayer and that the game would be released both digitally and at retail.
Burnout Paradise Remastered will be released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on March 16, along with all of the previously released DLC. A PC version is also planned, but does not yet have a date – presumably because the DLC wasn’t originally released for it and will take a bit more time to sort out.
